Geologist here, this is called snowflake obsidian. It's obsidian, or volcanic glass, mixed with crystals of cristobalite.

Stop lights are different sizes. In a big city, with 3 lanes in each direction, they'll be that big. In a small city with one lane only, they'll be much smaller.

The phone numberpad is that way because when touch tone phones were first made, a bunch of different designs were tested, and this one was the favorite, with users being able to input the phone number the fastest, with the fewest errors. I don't know, however, why the computer keypad is different.

I don't see why this is such an issue. All through grade school and high school, I had homework maybe 5 nights. For 12 years. And I graduated with great grades. The only kids that had homework were the ones who screwed around in class and didn't do their work when given the time.
