As someone who just had this issue- it's because it can drain the battery if left on. Say from Saturday afternoon until Monday morning almost causing a parent to miss work...

See, I hate that people are doing this because my son loves toy story and wants to be woody and wants me to be the clown from toy story 3. My ass will NOT be getting shot or beaten up though so I have to tell him I can't and to find something else. Jerks.

Yes. I bought a motion activated rat today (for a dollar) to scare my kids with. My daughter hated it. My son didn't notice and when he did he didn't care. It was hilarious seeing her reaction though. (Plastic thing that squeaks when you move in front of it.)
