"God as a Watchmaker". God created the world, set up natural laws, set the world into motion... then placed us on the shelf and moved on to other things.

But what happens to the beak? Do they mend over time? Or does it just have a busted beak until it dies?

I don't think the periodic table predates the Latin language. I think that parts of the periodic table use Latin names for the elements. Cause it does.

I do like the Robert E Lee quote (if accurate), because people today like to claim "the civil war wasn't about slavery", but the actual general of the rebel states seems to think it totally was.

He signed the Proclamation to give the rebel states a last chance to return to America. The Proclamation details how all the slaves "in rebel territory" would be freed, starting at the new year. If, say, Alabama had returned to America after Lincoln issued the Proclamation, slaves in Alabama would not have been set free.

That's probably because slavery is one of those issues where things are actually pretty cut and dry: slavery is bad. It is bad all the time, from 1776 to 1865 to now. We don't need vast amounts of historical context to understand that. We also don't need statues dedicated to men who betrayed their country so that they could continue to own slaves. "Duh slavery wrong tear statues down" is actually a pretty good summation of things. Thanks for supplying it.
