Sports have emotional bonds (not that anime doesn't) which often times are passed down from generation to generation, they also have geographic ties, and are linked to actual human athletes with emotion, motivation, and unique upbringing. They are unpredictable and unscripted. So its not hard to see why sports are such a large part of our culture.

My fiancé has a pitbull, the first i had really spent any time with. Her family has 5 dogs, a german sheppard, a retriever, and 2 small mixed breeds. Our pit is by far the most intelligent, gentle, and best trained out of the bunch. the only time her and i have any issue or say anything about it is if someone talks bad about them. Pitbulls are beautiful, smart, and incredibly loving creatures. Needless to sat they're are now my favorite breed hands down. Just because they can be taught a violent behavior (like every other breed or animal) does not make them dangerous. Any animal can be dangerous if they are taught or neglected.
