A lot of people have trouble seeing mentally disabled people as actual people. They have hopes and dreams. They have emotions. They care about other people. At my school, I work with kids like that and help them learn every day. They are some if the most hardworking people I've ever known. Another thing people don't understand is how hard it is. These kids watch people learn in five minutes what might take them five monthes to fully comprehend. Most of all, they are courageous and brave.
But what is normal, really? That guy down the street in the cafe? He has diabetes. The lady working as a janitor at the movie theatre? She is paranoid schizophrenic. The kid running the newspaper to your door? Attention deficit hyperactive disorder. The paperboy's father? Adult onset ADD. The guy that everyone knows and talks to? Osteogenesis imperfecta. Can you really say you know anyone that doesn't have something going on with their brain or body?
It's about treating them as normal as their medical disabilities will allow. I think this is a very beautiful story and I wish there were more heartwarming stories out there like this!! Kudos to Karrie!!!!
I definitely am not against people with down syndrome, but I just don't understand why things are handed them like this.

well i guess it's kinda because in general they can be ostracised and bullied for being different, and things can be a lot harder to achieve because of their disabilities, so this is kinda helping them along,
She's soooo cute!
