Friday the 13th may be over, but these kitties are still out waiting to cross your path. And if they do... you literally have nothing to worry about. But they might. Sadly, due to their association with bad luck, black cats actually have a hard time getting adopted, and face a high rate of abandonment. (Let people believe what they want, they said.)
Thankfully, the RSPCA and ASPCA have both established a Black Cat Day on October 27th and August 17th respectively to help get black cats adopted. And some shelters even forgo the adoption fee on Black Friday to aid this effort. And the interest in blacks cats was also heighten by the Black Panther movie... To be fair, the Bombay breed was specifically bred to look like a mini panther.
Some cultures (like Japanese and Celtic) do hold them in higher regard. And Irish and British sailors apparently also hold that a black ship's cat is a bringer of good luck.
Still, their struggle is real. (But certainly not as much as that of white cats.)
