Well they're not doing it out of the goodness of their heart but it does help. There's only a problem when good working conditions aren't provided, including a livable salary that matches the work and what it brings the employer and its potential customers.
That's not a sure sentence @purplepumpkin. Good employers pay a good wage because they have a good heart.
Employers, CEO's etc, can not be judged as all the same. That's the same as assuming all white or black people are the same. There's good bosses and bad. I've had both and the bad are different from the bad and the good are different from the good.
Yes, this is a good point. I meant "on the concept", as in a good heart isn't a prerequisite nor the only motive. Thankfully there are pretty good people out there (and that's also a smart move from them because they make me want to work extra hard and do lots of unpaid extra hours and it's the same for other people I know).
I wasn't supposed to but when the work is fun, the boss nice and the team great... I really wanted the final results to be as great as I could, just didn't say it to the accounting dept because paying me these hours would have required for quite some paperwork and they didn't ask me to do them so I didn't want them to spend extra.
Some of my friends had the same appreciation for their work environment and did the same. It's not however supposed to happen, nor expected at all, nor of course required, that would be very concerning as it could lead to some bad bosses pressuring workers into working for free and pay them only for a fraction of their work.
Well, maybe your situation is different. Any unpaid work hours can be massive legal issues here but I'm in a "Protect the worker, Comrade." kind of country currently. It's nice knowing some people can still find jobs worth the kind of sacrifice you made though.
