Thanks for backing me up
“No person shall solicit votes in any manner or by any means or method...or participate in the giving of any money or gifts, including, but not limited to, food and drink, to an elector.”
Right, so as long as you're not associated with a campaign, you can give out water all day long. Dems are telling all kinds of lies about the new Georgia law and they get away with it because the media backs them up. Sad.
But then to give out water you must not be a registered democrat or republican, which is not a very large group... otherwise it can be spun that you are helping "the other side". The point is it's a freaking stupid law in the first place; so what if people are gifted basic necessities while in line to vote, which this "law", along with the caveat of restricting means of voting and limiting voting places, will result in longer lines, is non-sensical to begin with. So long as voting requires a social security code that can be verified, why all the loopholes? Oh, right, the south has been building loopholes from the beginning.
So you support political bribes and seem to think voting is way more secure than it actually is. Good to know. Social security number? I wish that was a nationwide requirement. Or even an ID!
That's the point of the law. Fuck the political ideologies. You realize that it's still perfectly fine for non-political parties to give water, and it's still perfectly fine for people to... take .5 fucking seconds and grab a few bottles themselves.
A registered voter passing out water bottles to republicans would be breaking this law. The absurdness of the law goes beyond political parties; it goes all the way down to basic humanity. How do you even prove non-political party? I've seen entire churches use that guise.
In all seriousness, I'm tired, I came here to laugh today.. I'd much rather us find some common ground to laugh about right now rather than begin a shit show. Did you ever get around to listening to Nahko Bear?
edit: for some reason my brain skipped the word voter derrr on my part.
Just to clarify for people who might be confused, the law, copied and pasted above, with extraneous words stripped away, states as follows, verbatim, "No person shall participate in the giving of any food to an elector" and "No person shall participate in the giving of any drink to an elector".
,
If you read the text carefully, you'll see the law is not limited to people soliciting votes. It needs to say "by participating" not "or participate" to limit its scope to people soliciting votes.
,
The law goes on to set penalties for participating in the giving of food or drink to an elector at up to a $5,000 fine and/or up to one year in jail.
