Guys, we have to cancel the Revolutionary War. It's uncalled for to shoot officers leading their men on the field.

That’s sorta the point if you missed it. Iroh wasn’t always” Uncle Iroh.” He BECAME Uncle Iroh. He paid dearly- his Son died in Irohs most (in)famous 600 day battle- at that point Iroh was the next fire lord and his son the prince- the next Fire Lord. He was a soldier and a man with a duty to his people as a ruler. Men like that do what they believe they must for the “greater good” and their personal feelings are often a luxury. But after his sons death and his brother becoming fire lord- he was free but at a great cost. So “Uncle Iroh” is a very different man. And that’s part of the bigger question- redemption. Who and what is unforgivable? Can good wash away bad? Does it need to- or can we admit that good people can do bad things? Some part of Iroh is still who he was- as we saw when he was in prison. But perhaps what is most important is he made a decision that he no longer wanted to be the old Iroh and spent time and effort not to be.
