Didn't even know the bavarian word. Here we say "trielen".

The most awkward part is when you accidentally stare at someone while doing this, like on public transport.
In Czech we call this "staring into stupid", it doesn't have a nice ring to it when translated but there's also a funny retort to it, when someone tells you you're staring into stupid, you look at them and say "no I'm staring at stupid".

Also in bavarian: " ins Narrenkasterl schauen". Means the same and translates to " look into the fool's box"
