Agreed with both you and Dr_ew. In a way... it is like a modern day version of some comfort myth from primitive society- that if one losses a child- there is a skeleton family that gains a child somewhere. There are elements of sadness and happiness as well as an underlying message about balance in life and an obligatory partial explanation of the afterlife and the idea that it isn’t just that bad things happen pointlessly sometimes- but there is some reason. I could see some culture somewhere putting out offerings or using shrines/idols/etc. to stop skeleton parents from stealing babies.

Reminds me a lot of marron from yugioh. A card of a lost puppy that ends up never finding his owner, dying, becoming a skeleton... but living a super happy afterlife with the skull lord family :D
