Believe it or not but they are trained to tell their owners in a way that they need a bathroom break. And if you ever had a dog you can find the shit.

MrsC covered this pretty well already- but for more depth: Usually the blind person. Depending on the training the details and be a little different here or there- but generally the dogs are trained to either poop on command or at specific times- in which case the handler has to keep track of a rough schedule of when the dog last went and when it will need to go again- and plan for that. In other cases the dogs are trained to notify the handler.

Regardless- most dogs have some pretty consistent “tells” and a fairly set routine when they go. So if you feel the dog doing it’s routine- you know it is time. Most organizations will “train” or “orient” the handler Recieving the dog on how to work with and care for it. That includes learning to clean up after it and keep discipline. At home or “common turf” finding and designating a spot for the dog to know to use as a bathroom is usually relatively easy and the right spot can make it much easier or even negate having to clean up after.

From there techniques like feeling the dogs back down to the tail to know where the poo will drop, various techniques using the feet to set a general “zone” you know the poop should be in etc- help a lot. And then- as MrsC says- it’s poop. You’re blind- your nose still works. You can find it if you’re close- and being careful or figuring out a small but general area it probably is in will save you stepping in it- so from there you put the bag over your hand inside out, smell and feel for the poo, grab, turn the bag inside out- toss it.

In Germany there was a court decision that blind people are exempt from the poop duty in 2016
