All drugs tested by the FDA have to have uniform color and markings. Many drugs used for humans are used for animals. Many drugs used in livestock must be safe for humans. It costs more money to test a drug as safe and then manufacture it different ways. It is not uncommon for drugs used on humans to be sold for animals, the same exact drugs although often not requiring any type of prescription and being in bulk and much cheaper. With a pharmaceutical manual like the Merc manual- you can identify drugs that are human drugs sold to animals. This includes many popular antibiotics.

Yet they don't drug test the difference between men and women. They are discovering that many drugs work great for men but not for women, the same goes with physiology. While it makes sense in the beginning as naturally men's hormones are steady while women's hormones vary depending on where she is during her menstrual cycle. They are just starting to study physiology with women and they are just beginning to talk about the effects certain medication have on women.

They are effective though! I always get some medication when I go to south america. I used to beg my mom to bring our. Ersion of "midol" because it was more effective as well. And once I went to Europe and got the best nasal spray ever. Wish I had brought more. The ones here do nothing for me. Plus some medications here are also the same for himans and animals. My dog has cataracts and gastritis and has the same drops and medication my dad uses (also has both) because I read the components. My dad's are just more expensive

We will be here all day of you get me started on the treatment of women by science and medicine. From surgery to sexuality to quality of life and even basic anatomy. There are factors that contribute to that but come on. The level of disinterest and the imbalance in the study of female anatomy even though females comprise the majority of the population is insulting. Even sex- a favorite field of research and a classic male obsession even in science- women get (no pun intended) the short end of the stick. Don’t get me started.

@guest_ Go for it! As a woman and an athlete, I see it all first hand.

I get that too. After all, I'm a woman. But everything I have taken, personally, has worked 10x better, efficiently. Just my personal experience.

@itsamemaria- I’m glad you’ve had good luck and hope you continue to. It’s funny how it just works sometimes. I’ve known women who sailed through pregnancy claiming a headache is worse for them than carrying and birthing a baby, women who have never had any symptoms asides bleeding (and even then lightly) from their periods, etc etc. Some women get “lucky” in some areas and I’m glad you have had luck in medicine!

@laughwendylaugh- as a female athlete you’d certainly have the more relevant perspective than me! Lol. I’m sorry you have to be first hand acquainted with the many challenges and inadequacies out there. What’s particularly frustrating to me is how obvious and prevalent the signs are even in every day life- and get people can still claim there are no such biases. Women don’t need men to champion their rights or wants- but men can at least try not to be part of the problem- maybe even cooperate in the solutions perhaps.

@guest_ tell me about it!!! I'm not lucky with periods. Pain, nausea, and other stuff. Lucky light period women would look like me like I was a drama queen. So far, I have noticed those women have a hard time with pregnancy (maybe not used to such discomfort?) So hoping I have an "easy" pregancy

I hope you do too. That’s another one we just don’t know enough about. Surprising enough. We can tell people what county of what country their grandpa came from or their odds of this or that condition- but so much with child birth is “I guess we will find out when we get there.” Sorry to hear about your period pains. Now that you mention it though I think most women I know with easy periods also have either had trouble trying to get pregnant or haven’t gotten pregnant on accident.... maybe it’s just perception but I wonder if there isn’t something there...?

I always wonder too. Is it hormones? We ( the ones that get bad cramps, bloaring, stomach issues) are juat used to it or also different hormonal levels?

Women's hormones change and fluctuate as we go through our menstrual cycle. Example, when you ovulate your body increases in temperature by a couple of degrees. Add in training on a hot day while ovulating and you find it very difficult to go for a run as you're already running hot. There is another part in your cycle where your body takes a lot longer to process protein and carbs so you feel weaker and it's difficult to do an exercise you had no problem with the day before. The best thing to do is to track your cycle so you can understand why you are struggling on that day. Then you need to figure out a way to deal with the difficulties (ie. overheating, feeling weak, etc) Everyone's body is different so what works for one isn't necessarily going to work for someone else. It might be eating more protein and carbs while on your menzies but maybe it will different protein and carbs on those days or perhaps even carb and protein loading just before your menzies so you have enough to...

keep working out and not feeling so weak. The best advice so far is to just push through it. Don't take a break or slow down on those days. You may end of having a competition outside when you're ovulating or when you're on your menzies and they're not going to delay the competition until you're past it. At least by knowing where you are in your cycle, you can prepare in advance to get ready for your competition. There are some female scientists who are working on studying the physiology with women so more data will be available at some point.

Well for some women the pain is intolerable. I used to have to leave school or work. Now is bad but not as much as I get older. One of my friends would pass out so just push through it for sone is not an option :(

@itsamemaria When I said push through it I was referring to the average female athlete, there are always exceptions. Did you go see your doctor if your cramps are that bad? There are things that can be done so it's not so bad.

I always wonder what if a professional athlete is like thay. There must be. Imagine being in the USA soccer team in the world cup final and you have bad cramps! I'm not a feminazi but this is why I think women are not the same as men. We have to do the same as them and more. Anyways, I did and not much, normal cysts thay form during the cycle. Apparently you are not even supposed to feel them and I do. As well as other things (the pain, nausea, and bowel problems during it) lately is not AS bad. Not sure if changing my diet helped (I'm vegetarian now. And a nutritionist friend said that could have helped) or that im older.
