Yes and no. Metaphorically this is actually very apt all around as a meme. The “garages” in question represent the fact that these founders had significant support, resources, and or assets that most people don’t. So if we say “these companies started in garages” while overlooking that isn’t the entire story and making the “garage” represent what those people had available- then we can easily point out many people don’t even have the actual garage- usually meaning they can’t even afford that or don’t have a relative or someone to share those resources and help them succeed. Classically in the argument of “what’s your excuse” the person putting it forward tends to overlook or brush off all the advantages one person has or the road blocks another faces and distill the equation down to some form of “if you work hard enough or want it hard enough you can succeed- and not succeeding is the result of not working hard enough and everything else is an excuse...”

So tl:dr- on multiple levels this meme is actually quite an intelligent and subtle way of illustrating the classic logical fallacies of determinist or self destiny exclusive view points.

When you have billions, you can buy a new past. Tony stark built his first iron man suit and arc-reactor in a cave in the Middle East
