It was a brutal war that the USA didn't start. Japan was a ruthless enemy that raped, tortured, and killed tons of POWs and civilians where ever they invaded. It would have been horrific to had the Allies had to fight in ,main land Japan. It's always a small group of dickheads in power that start wars.
USA did rape, torture and kill aswell. In fact all countries at some point did. And some still does like China to their own people. So dont try justifying what USA did as something needed or okay. Is sad but thats why is war. And should be a reminder to all of us to not let war happen again.
Did those two bombs end the Pacific theater? Yes. The goal of most wars isn't killing people, it's political submission. Those two bombs, while horrendous, saved more lives than they took.
Make no mistake, Japan was a fierce opponent, hence why they're the only country to ever be nuked.
The US had a large German population. The Japanese did a surprise attack and I sure that it stirred up a lot of fear of the US Japanese ,concentration camps and all. Every cartoon, news reel, the news papers demonized the Japanese and they were look upon as subhuman . There were Japanese that were serving in army units in Europe , that were highly decorated.
The other guest should learn some history. We couldn’t nuke Germany because the war in Europe was over before the bombs even existed (first ever nuclear detonation in July but Germany surrendered in May) and they should try google searching “Rape of Nanjing” and cry themself to sleep like any decent human being.
I'm not talking about in 1945 though, the war lasted almost 6 years yet USA didn't even think of nuking Germany. Yet Japan joined around 1940 and they were nuked just because they wouldn't surrender? Had Nazi Germany continued, do you think the US would even think of nuking them to end it? I don't think so, and what about the Japanese population in USA?
We definitely would've used the bombs if they were in the same condition and state as Japan.
The only alternative was an invasion that would've cost millions of lives.
Guest doesn’t understand that Nazi Germany and nuclear weapons never existed at the same time. Why would we make strategic military plans pertaining to the Nazis around a weapon that didn’t even exist? “Not talking about 1945” so you’re suggesting either pre-1945 or post-1945. Pre-1945 obviously impossible to nuke the Nazis because the bombs didn’t exist. Post-1945 literally impossible to nuke the Nazis because they (Nazi Germany) didn’t exist.
Planning like that would make as much sense as Hilter making battle plans for nonexistent armies after he was completely bonkers. Right on the point there guest.
You left out the part about carpeting the cities with leaflets warning about the bombings and telling them to get out ahead of time. I don't recall Japan giving the same concern to Pearl Harbor or China.
I wonder how Soviet troops would have treated the Japanese had

Totally true, but I feel like, dropping leaflets on PH warning the Americans about the attack, may not have been in keeping with the Japanese' tactical plan based on a surprise attack.
That plan is what screwed them, and their allies, in the long run. Until then the U.S. had taken a strick isolationist stance, refusing to get into a war they had no part of. If they hadn't entered the war it highly likely that the Axis powers would have won the war. So maybe that wasn't the greatest tactical decision anyway.

Lol, we all know the history. I'm not disagreeing with you, or condoning what the Japanese did. I'm just a highly entrepreneurial guy. Not a huge fan of mass-murder or violence, but if you're gonna swing the hammer, swing first and swing hard. I respect the risk they took, and they took it for good reason. Japan would've been fucked without entering the war... No risk, no reward. Obviously it didn't work out for them in the end.
Fire bombs: 100,000 killed.
