I like to get things for the people I love too. If I was rich all my loved ones would be rich by extension.

Yes well, kudos to him for not being as flamboyant as many people who even have far less money then he- but the man owns billions in real estate in multiple homes, his own plane, travels the world on a whim- it’s his money and he has it to spend, but I wouldn’t hold up the fact that he abstains from buying designer belts to the fact he owns his own jet aircraft if we are trying to make some sort of message on frugality. As far as humility- he can afford to be humble. Who does he have to impress? No one is looking at his car or his clothes and deciding wether they want to business with him based on that image. He’s a household name and synonymous with money and technology. He doesn’t need to worry much about doors being closed in his face. We also can’t say his fragility is the secret to his wealth- don’t take that lesson. You can’t save your way into profit even if you can spend yourself into bankruptcy. Do you, don’t be a financial moron, but if your finances are lined up and...

... you have a budget, but a Gucci belt if you like Gucci belts. Buy things that make you happy and have quality. The lesson isn’t humility or even frugality but appreciation and intelligence. Appreciate what you buy no matter what your budget is. Don’t buy stupid shit that you don’t care about or won’t care about next week. Don’t buy things just to show off or just because you can. Buy things that you are happy with, and will likely be happy with. Take care of them and make them last. Whatever your budget is, anything like a tool or that is going to be around awhile, but quality. If you have to buy one piece at at time over years instead of buying loads of crap all at once- do it. If it’s somethig you actually care about then you’ll get the money back in use, and if it isn’t- maybe don’t buy it. The lesson here is spend money on things that better you, or on things that you actually want and need- not just fads and more disposable crap to bury the future in.

They wear the same style of clothes they've worn since before they were rich. It's not them being smart its them being stubborn and liking the shit they like.
