Nothing more adult than growing the up so the planet doesn't keep getting littered and invested with straws that won't degrade and end up in animals and the environment. I think StarBucks is doing good

except there it looks like it uses more plastic than a straw would

Fair point, however plastic straws are made from a different type of plastic that takes a much longer time to degrade and most aren't even recyclable. The main problem isn't just the amount of plastic used but where it goes after it is used, straws manly lead to the ocean, small objects that end up there are the things that are killing off our sea creatures.

Still, it's kinda like pissing on a wildfire. Banning a single use of consumer plastic is not gonna do very much, especially when big corporations still have a much bigger impact on our environment than any number of consumers. With all the packaging used, chemical waste, and other various forms of waste that a factory produces, it's unlikely that any change in consumer habits will affect anything in comparison.

There are over 28k Starbucks (not including the stores that sell Starbucks drinks and also use the green iconic straws). Consider this. Most Starbucks average over 100 customers a day (I used to work at one, and was curious about averages and whatnot of customers and their orders). Approximately 45% of those customers order cold drinks that require the iconic green straws. Doing the math, that is approximately 1.2 million green straws used a day throughout the corporation. That is about 463 milli9n green straws a year. So I am fairly certain that there will be some form of positive impact on the environment.

Any change is a good change, our world isn't in a place where we can just pretend stuff isn't happening, or believe that the little changes don't do anything. Everything counts, it's the smaller corporations (although StarBucks is not small) that make the first step and put pressure on the higher-ups to follow and also make a change. Honestly, in my opinion, it shouldn't matter how small the change is because if it's a positive one there should be no reason to dislike it.

HAHAHA! YOU GOT ‘EM! drinking out of a cup with a sippy lid!!! It’s just like babies, or... grown ups drinking REGULAR HOT COFEE which already and for a long time has come in cups with lids that have a small “sippy” nozzle or spill resistant opening on them at Starbucks and pretty much anywhere that sells cofee “to go” and with a lid..... so.... is the thing that makes it juvenile that cold drinks will have the same top as hot drinks- do you toss the lid off your cofee and exclaim: “LIDS ARE FOR BABIES!!” Or do you... do you drink coffee with a straw....? Nothing- nothing wrong with that. Any more than anything is wrong with having a lid that makes sense like this one does.
