Call me old-fashioned but marriage should be between a man, a primary wife, and several subwives, all of whom must be uneducated teenage virgins on their wedding day who will be ranked hierarchically and can be sold, traded away, or killed at the slightest misgiving. That’s what a REAL traditional marriage is all about.
Largely depends what society you're talking about here.
"The Mosuo have what's called “walking marriages." There is no institution of marriage; rather, women choose their partners by literally walking to the man’s home and the couples never live together. Since children always remains in the mother’s care, sometimes the father plays little role in the upbringing. In some cases, the father's identity is not even known. Instead, the male’s childrearing responsibilities remain in his own matrilineal household."

Pretty sure if I tried to get a 2nd wife, my 1st wife would turn herself into a widow pretty quickly.
@xvarnah Actually, it doesn’t depend. I capitalized the word ‘REAL’ to let you know that my way of thinking is the only acceptable way. Marriage should be a polyamorous relationship between a man and several disempowered, disposable women. Do you think this is a site where people can benefit by reading different cultural narratives and trains of thought that might broaden their world views? The Mosuo mate like college freshmen after a frat party - not the way ‘normal’ human beings do. So, take your alternative facts and stick ‘em where the sun don’t shine, pal. No room for enlightenment here.
