Maybe it's better for him. Extra jail years for prison escape may not be good news if you were only there for a handful of months or years.

He shouldn't be punished for the system fucking up and releasing him early

I wouldn't imagine that he would be but depending on crime and time this could help him to achieve a shortened sentence later on
