100 years ago, the richest most powerful person in the world couldn’t procur edible watermelon period, let alone for a small fee. Here’s my question. If you are aware that people live in civilized conditions elsewhere, why stay in Nunavut?

What do you consider to be civilized cobditions? You couldn’t pay me to live in NYC or LA. Alaska sounds nice, the UP sounds nice, the Great Lakes region is nice. One man’s civilization is another’s night terror.

I've lived in LA and it's really fun. Expensive but if I'm being paid to live somewhere I'd rather choose that than live with my Uncle up in Alaska where there's nothing to do and the weather gets extremely cold. Being from a rural area on Oahu, where you have to drive an hour to get anywhere, living in the City where a trip to a Wal-Mart doesn't require a 2 hour round trip so you spend an entire Saturday just doing shopping, I've learned to appreciate life where you can buy stuff without having to take a trip anywhere

I was living in southern Alaska, about 45 minutes away from Anchorage, and the one store in town was selling the one cantaloupe they had for $24. Someone wanted it but didn't have enough money so they cut it in half and sold it for $12. Stuff is crazy expensive up there.

Total cost of living in Alaska is still lower than Switzerland, NYC or SanFrancisco.
