As a teacher, I disagree with the bit about school. School teaches you how to understand poetry, how to comprehend the universe, and how to learn from the mistakes of the past. It teaches you plenty of useful, non-"factory worker" stuff.
However, most of what is drilled into students minds is things like math that has little to no use outside of very specific fields. It's a generalization. He didn't say "drop out" he just said "learn more than just what they teach".
Furthermore, as a teacher myself, I always link what I'm teaching to practical situations (e.g., life skills). There are certainly many teachers out there who focus on "drilling" information into students, but there are many teachers out there who actually try to prepare students for life outside the classroom.
im not saying ALL math just the complex shit that doesnt help like sin/cos x=whatnot. obviously basic addition and shit is helpful. and yes like you say there are some teachers who go the extra mile but lets be honest, they arent the majority (especially considering the "i dont get paid enough for this" argument is totally valid so who can blame them)
So you know... don't do that
