Sure, but we should ensure that we're still around to go to space, and that takes military funding.
Also, those things you motioned aren't actually significant issues, at least not yet.
They will be. We need to get started on knowing how to; the knowledge of space travel required to save ourselves is far away, so we might as well get started. And space programs can be helpful for war, defense, and making peace with other countries. All I'm saying is that those who complain about the amount of money spent on space exploration/travel is minimal when compared with others things the U.S. government spends pn.
"so we might as well get started."
Yeah, that's what the current NASA budget is for.
"And space programs can be helpful for war, defense, and making peace with other countries."
That's a ways off, to put it lightly.
"All I'm saying is that those who complain about the amount of money spent on space exploration/travel is minimal when compared with others things the U.S. government spends pn. "
Yeah, that definitely true, the amount is fairly moderate in the first place.
People complain about the amount we spend on the space program. They ask why we don't spend it on "more important things", like the military. The military is sufficiently funded. What they don't realize is that space exploration and even just orbiting our planet are nowjere near as costly.
That's what people like SpaceX are for.
They seem to be showing the most promise with getting us to space at the moment.
And in reference to "That's a ways off, to put it lightly.": do you have any idea how many technologies have been advanced or developed for the sake of space flight, then used commercially, militaristically or economically afterwards?
SpaceX and NASA are working together. Still, funding NASA more wouldn't hurt. I understand that this is not always possible, At least don't complain that NASA is being funded too much.
NASA should definitely have more funding, but they did take it for granted for a while. Continuing things like the Shuttle program, for example, wasn't the best idea. It wouldn't have hurt to make a large public display again, like being more active about Mars or sending people back to the moon, if only for the public statement it would make to boost their funding for a while. That or get a better marketing campaign.
If NASA had done those things, Americans would be really proud and patriotic and would support more missions. Which is why I hope we are able to do them now, only that would take time and slow our progression...
