Was the "straights" comment really necessary though? I don't want to judge but it sounds like it was written by one of the "gay is good, straight is bad" kind of people.

I think it's just a joke parodying homophobic people talking about how they "want to ban the gays".

Oh, ok. It confused me because there actually are people who think that supporting LGBT means hating straight/cis people. But then again, they usually only appear on tumblr.
