i read this story the other day its a good read. Have yall watched the video about the dog that fell in a hole and his face was eaten by maggots. That's a heart-wrenching story.
theres a ton of stories on him so fact checking is pretty easy hes no in pain and not had surgeries to ease pain. and its a super rare deformity so blaming it on breeding is ridiculous as odds are its not something that's been cropping up in previous generations of the dogs. they actually have some geneticist working on looking at him to figure out the cause they don't even know if its genetic at this point, and if it is its not irresponsible breeding until a deformity pops up and you CONTINUE breeding the line you know it came from (in regards to responsible breeding healthy dogs concerning genetics, theres no need to start fighting about dog breeding in general its its own topic)
Most of the time they aren't in pain. And it's definitely not the breeders fault. It just happens. Like if someone was born with a deformed body part, is that the parent's fault? "Your son has a disability? What did you do? How stupid are you to let that happen?" It deformed before it was born. It's no ones fault. And it has a loving home, he's happy, why should it matter if he has something wrong with him?
That said, inbreeding used to keep a dog's 'pedigree' can cause damaged DNA to be passed from parent to child, hence making genetic disorders more likely to occur.
They found him wandering the street. Where the fuck was the "responsible" breeder to take care of what they made? Fuck breeders. All they care about is money.
peach9 not all breeders. My dog came from a breeder, and that breeder had my family come and visit our dog when she was a puppy a few times, to make sure she would be in good hands with us. Although there are breeders out there who do in fact only care about money, not all of them are like that.
The reason they are breeding is to make money. That is their goal. you can sugarcoat it all you'd like. It's the truth. They don't care about dogs they care about money.
They don't yet know what causes this issue, through there are many many issues caused by the practice of inter breeding to develop distinctly different dog breeds.

Wouldn't have been more merciful to kill it as a puppy? Like I know that's aweful to say, but
Why? It's already been stated he's not in any pain, and he looks goddamn hilarious. I don't think the condition itself is funny, but he's definitely silly looking.
well excuse me but most of the cat and dog breeds we've created have terrible health problems as a consequence of their, well, breeding process. those flat-faced cats for example have trouble breathing. labradors have bound-to-become-a-huge-problem hip joints. it's all on us, really. not just this one dog.
unfortunately so do I

The name of the dog is Quasimodo and he is very happy.
And accurate.
And horrible.
