Actually, I'm pretty sure almost every "don't try this at home" has a story behind it of someone before the time of the warning who was, in fact, a complete moron.

Well maybe your generation were morons, so they had to add "Don't do this at home" so other kids wouldn't make the same moronic decisions as your "superior" generation made.
