I wonder if these would work up near Canada?

Yes. Yes they would, if done right. I've done a lot of research on this. Most earthships are constructed in New Mexico but the premise remains the same anywhere: super energy efficient, super insulated, recycle everything (including gray and black water), generate your own electricity via wind, solar and water. Passive and active solar for heat and electricity, water collection tanks. Gray/Black water used to fertilize greenhouse type gardens. Tires with pounded dirt with rebar are ridiculously earthquake resistant and the thickness of their walls means serious thermal insulation. I'm currently looking for a piece of property in mid-western Washington (near the Canadian border) with a decent elevation drop to install a water wheel and test out my own takes on heating and cooling.
