The tip of a ballpoint pen

I thought it was until I saw the title. Strangely enough, I've wanted to see one under a microscope... Cool!

It is a ball actually, hence the name ball point pen. They work a bit like a roll on deodorant does: the ink wipes off on the paper and rolls around, picking up more ink from the reservoir behind it.
