As much as I love this, they didn't give us vapid TV shows - we demanded them. They don't force shitty music upon us, we buy it in such enormous numbers that they're compelled to keep producing it. It's not just The Big Bad System that needs to change - and it does - it's our appetites. It's our insistence on consuming, consuming, consuming trends and the signs of social status.
It's not enough to vote. You should know about what you're voting on/for. Sadly, news outlets these days can't be relied on to give facts, only spin.
We are royally fucked, and I can only see it getting worse from here.
You don't have to vote for what's on the ticket. If enough people rallied around a better candidate, one who actually cares but won't suck the dicks of huge donors to get the money for tons of ads, he or she could get elected. But most people don't think its worth the time or just give up. Basically, voting matters. Change the leaders and you can change policies.
That's cute.
Not only that, but laws are being written to make campaign financing worse, not better. There is just too much money, special interests, lobbies, etc in the system for there ever to be proper representation for the average American ever again. You know, aside from some huge destructive uprising that'll surely do more harm than good, especially when you consider how it'll effect the world as a whole.
This is, quite simply, the best we can do.
Thankyou willfree! My question is this.....who is "they"? Mgoveia thinks republicans.... . Absolutely think for yourself and push for what you think is right! But I ask you to really think into whats happening around you. Dont take everything written on the internet as truth just because it makes you feel empowered. And seriously question a leader who constantly answers issues with "I just now found out about it, and I will not rest until it is corrected" thwn nothing happens.
They cut off your art and replaced it with endless reality shows? I dunno about everybody else, but I know lots of baby boomers that watch reality shows religiously. I don't know that many younger adults that watch much reality tv.
I don't think "they" ever deprived us of anything; I have access to education, and meaningful music, and art. The problem is that so many of us CHOOSE the meaningless, mass-produced alternative because it's so much less challenging. "They" aren't holding us back; we did this to ourselves.
If it makes anyone feel better, though, all the republicans should be dead in a decade or so.
