For 3 years? I've been learning french for 7 years and I can't even talk my way out of a speaking assessment.

This is my second language and I laughed so hard because sometimes, I don't want to do math in my head and instead of going "four twenty sixteen" the old ticker goes "fuck it, 96"

It's talking about numbers in French. For example, in English, 98 is said as 90 + 8. In French, it's 4*20 + 10 + 8.

Yes but we (I am French) do not do the math, because we already know the numbers. I didn't even realise 80 was "4×20" until I was 12 or something !

I know. It was emphasizing length.

Just telling it to the people who didn't know :)

This is because France used to use a base 60 counting system. When they switched to base 10, they decided to do this instead of thinking up new numbers, so as not to confuse the people who were still used to the base 60 system.
