But you have to pick a school that excels in your desired field, and some majors/dual degree/study abroad programs require planning from semester one to complete. While I concede that it isn't as though the decisions on flipped on like a switch, it may not be possible to follow every path without planning from ages 18 and younger. Some careers are best pursued from 14. So there is some truth when talking about how much power is put in the hands of young people, especially when you stop to think that there are some really crappy parents out there who do very little to help their children along.
