This makes me really sad 9 comments

This looks more like a holding facility, like where the animals stay when they're brought in for the night so their outside enclosure can be cleaned. It's probably painted for enrichment so they're not just staring at blank walls. I wouldn't be sad for them - it's actually pretty thoughtful. (:

All of them are cute, aren't they? 10 comments

It has absolutely nothing to do with how humans perceive them. Honestly, if you try to "save" them, you're probably doing far more harm than good. Don't believe everything you read on the internet! (Not even this - do some research, check out pages on what to do if you find baby wild animals.)

The worst invention ever 7 comments

We have iClickers at UCF. They're remotes with buttons for A, B, C, D, and E. You register your remote's numerical code with the specific class online so that way they know whose remote belings to whom. The professor will typically post a question in the powerpoint, turn on the wireless signal receiver, and all the students will vote. The receiver stores all the data for which remote chose which answer and whatnot based on their unique signal, and the professor will indicate the correct answer after everyone has voted, so the receiver marks all those votes as correct. That's how they're used for participation, and just clicking any button will register and that way they can be used for attendance. I hope this didn't make it more confusing, I tried to explain it as best I could.

Bajablast, I'm currently an undergrad on my way to becoming a vet - I'll be applying to vet school next summer. And I can tell you that vet school is the hardest grad school to get into: there's years and years of school, very difficult classes, little to no free time, and crippling debt. But if you decide that's really what you want to do, never give up! You can do it if you give it a shot. And it'll be more than worth it in the end. (:

Organic chemistry and microbiology are like this! Not quite so many colors, but there's definitely colorful solutions in beakers and test tubes. (:

Their vomit defense is so effective. They're throwing up half-digested, rotting meat. The smell can clear a room.

Too adorable not to pick up 4 comments

Also, if you see a baby chipmunk or squirrel or anything please don't pick it up unless it is injured or in harm's way. Unlike birds, mammals actually can smell humans on their babies, and may reject them.
And I can second that about squirrels. I was wearing thick leather welding gloves while holding a squirrel for an x-ray, and the squirrel's teeth went through the glove, my thumb, and the other side of the glove like a hot knife through butter.

Aaaand I just now noticed it says Harry "wasn't" the Chosen One. I should read more carefully.

Spoiler alert:
The last one can't happen. Harry is only the Chosen One because Voldemort CHOSE him. When Voldemort heard the prophecy from Snape, it could have meant Neville or Harry. He chose Harry because of their similarities (Muggle-born mother), therefore marking them as equals and giving Harry the power to destroy him 16 years later. If Voldemort had never killed Lily and James, Harry would not be the Chosen One. He'd totally still get into trouble with Ron and Hermione, though, so that part's accurate.

It snowed once in Orlando in February 2007. Melted before it hit the ground, but it was cool anyway! But I love our tropical Christmases. Happy hot-idays!

After doing a bit of research, I have proven myself wrong. These are little prairie dog pups. For some reason, baby prairie dogs have much longer tails than the adults. Oops!

Check out those tails - those are actually meerkats. Prairie dogs have stubby tails. Either way, these little guys are adorable!

Don't billions of people actually die every year, though? (Not necessarily killed, but from natural causes, accidents, etc.) It's just that more billions are also born every year.

Kestrels are actually fairly common in the US, too. I saw several while I was in Oklahoma for a summer wildlife rehab internship. I love these birds, they have so much personality. (:

Cardinal fish 16 comments

The fish eats a tiny shrimp, which produces the bioluminescence so that the fish is now a glowstick for other predators. It's like the shrimp is saying, "If I have to die, then I'm taking you with me!" The fish, not wanting to be eaten, spits out the little shrimp. You can see the little speck get sucked in, then fall down after it hits the glass.

This guy wants to be eaten by a snake 17 comments

His "snake-proof suit" has a rope on it, I think, so his camera crew can pull him out backwards. It is incredibly difficult and painful for snakes to regurgitate their meals, and very costly for them to lose digestive juices without actually getting ang nutrients. Not only is this showing blatant animal abuse, but it's perpetuating the man-eating snake fear that so many people have, instead of educating people about how cool and useful snakes are. It just makes me sad. I, for one, will not be watching.

Yeah, but Blackfish used manipulated facts and sensationalized stories to show SeaWorld in a bad light, when in reality SeaWorld is one of the too marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation sanctuaries in the world though.
