To those that think we should all fend for ourselves, I'll ask how you feel about collectively paying for a standing army, for teachers, police and firemen, for water and sewers, roads and bridges and all manner of farm subsidies. Imagine how much higher your lifetime costs would be if these purely socialist endeavours were all run as for-profit businesses. You're being duped by the insurance companies, their lobbyists and the political whores they buy with the obscenely massive profits they make on human misery. And their constant goal is to make ever more money while further restricting access. Wake up.

So it seems, with the profit motive removed, a country does better overall health wise and at a cheaper cost, what with no insurance companies fucking people over for preexisting conditions and lifetime limits and hospitals existing where they're required, not just where they can turn a profit-see rural America. Health care becomes preventative rather than reactive-people don't put off a visit now and pay through the nose later. No one goes bankrupt because they lost their job provided insurance at a critical time and your boss loses that insurance stick he always holds over your head. More freedom, right?

US probably has the highest paid doctors, but then what else would you expect when Health Care is a FOR-PROFIT INDUSTRY. However, the US', 46th worldwide ranking in life expectancy, might lead one to believe they are not earning that money, lol.
As for the yearly costs involved, per capita, the US Government wins, as the highest overall out of 21 countries, at over $10,000 per citizen(that's YOUR tax dollars) and then your personal insurance adds $4500-$8300...yearly. Just as point of comparison, your neighbours to the north rank 12th, at about $4800 per man woman and child, with $0 for personal insurance. Life expectancy-wise, they are ranked 30 places higher than the US, at 16th highest, with almost 4 years more of average life expectancy.

A Jamaican man who won the lottery has collected the Jamaican $158.4 million prize (around $1.2 million in U.S. currency), wearing a rather unusual outfit. The man, known only as A Campbell, wore a Scream mask whilst collecting his winnings from the Supreme Ventures office.
It is thought the man concealed his identity to stop people learning of his windfall, and in a bid to avoid harassment. The man reportedly waited more than 50 days before coming forward to collect his prize.
Lottery winners collecting the cash wearing costumes has become a trend in the Caribbean country, local media reports. Winners fear they will be recognised and harassed in the streets if their identities are made public.

Thanks, but I know generalities and had to look up specifics. Speaking of knowing things, I "knew" you couldn't die of a weed overdose, but your comment had me Googling and it seems I spoke out of turn, and indeed there have been deaths attributed to weed alone and especially weed combined with other drugs and/or preexisting conditions. Thank you for that. I have amended my original comment to reflect your input.

If you're planning to put the weed directly into the brownie mix, you might as well save some time and rub it into your scalp. It will yield the same effect.
Instead.
-First you decarb the weed in the oven. (look up why and how) but short version - oven at 245F, weed on tray, shake to expose new surfaces every 10 minutes, done in about 30-40 minutes(useless THCA now THC. TA DA! )
Then you put the decarbed weed into melted butter and a cup of water mix, simmer it for 2-3 hours between 160F-200F.
-Then strain out and discard the now useless weed using cheesecloth. Squeeze hard, it's your money.
-Use your now highly(get it?) potent canabutter as required, in any baking or cooking endeavours.
Be careful until you know how potent a serving will be. Overconsumption of edibles can be very unpleasant psychologically. Even though it's *nearly* impossible to die of a cannabis OD, you may not believe it at the time.
Only try this in Canada and other places where it's absolutely legal. ;)

Hachiko's 9 years waiting, is indeed a testament to a dog's loyalty, but Greyfriars Bobby's 14 year vigil, at his master's grave, makes him the real MVP. (Most Venerable Pup)

Do you know someone over 30 who still plays video games? 9 comments
carbontech · 4 years ago
Asking if someone over 30 still plays video games is like asking if they still watch movies or listen to music. Worldwide, video games generated US$152.1 billion in 2019, while movies only did US$41.7 billion and global music revenues took in, a relatively paltry, US$19.1 billion. We're all feeding those revenue streams...including my Wi and iPad owning, Bookworm and Candy Crush playing, 90+ mother-in-law.

5 years ago, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare allowed you to create your own emblems that would show up in lobbies and on final kill cams. One of mine said, "I'm Older Than Ur Dad" and another said, "I'm XX(much more than 30,lol),Cranky&Armed". To be honest, though I loved the franchise, I mostly sucked, but when I did well, those emblems got feedback, lol. I've been playing video games since Pong first arrived in bars and have owned and played on over a half dozen PCs and 2, soon to be 3, iterations of the PlayStation. My COD days are now mostly behind me because of eye issues, but I still play less twitch dependant ones. So though some younger players may not yet understand...Once a gamer-always a gamer.

President Bush posing with a bag of crack, circa 1985 7 comments

The photo is from 1989. President Bush arranged for undercover DEA agents to set up a crack buy at nearby Lafayette Park. Three days later he went on TV, showing the 3 ounces of crack, worth $2400 at the time, that they had purchased at the park across the street from the White House.
