The bubonic plague reappears all the time. You’ll see it in the us too, when people have been camping in certain rural areas. It doesn’t really spread, we’re good at containing it and it just doesn’t flourish in today’s world that well

I did a little research. In California and Michigan, two minors having sex would technically be considered statuatory rape, but it’s not really actually prosecuted. Most other states consider it legal as long as no one is necessarily taking advantage of the other. “Romeo and Juliet” clauses exist in some states, which would allow sex between a legal adult and legal minor given a small age gap (a 17 and 18 year old couple for example).
There used to be a clause in some states related to “of chaste character” issues. If the victim had previously had sex, sometimes the adult offender would not be charged. This clause pretty much disappeared in the United States in the 90s, but still exists elsewhere in the world

My boyfriend ordered a baby yoda plushie and wants a baby björn to carry it in. I think we can all appreciate the thought of a marine walking around a military base with a baby yoda plush strapped to their chest like a human baby :)

It appears that no one can verify whether the story is true that Al Capone is responsible for expiration dates on milk. The Capone family did have a serious hand in the dairy industry though, and it does look like Al Capone did lobby for it. So the story can’t be confirmed as true, but I personally believe he probably had a hand in it

The fact check is legit. The first source for the 1 in 4 drivers stat comes from a legal website called Edgar and Snyder associates. Looks like the stat comes from the Pennsylvania department of transportation :)

Out of curiosity, I looked up the etymology of “cowlick”. it’s apparently because cows tend to lick their young resulting in a swirling pattern of the hair!

Fun fact! This is a classic ADD behavior. What’s interesting is that it’s often used to identify girls with ADD/ADHD because girls are much less likely to present with hyperactive type adhd, but inattentive type, so it doesn’t tend to stand out as much.

Correction: it looks like the ruling was changed to joint custody instead of the previous ruling of custody for the mother. I wanted to point out something suprising when I read up on the case since it's been updated. The father has earned $$$$$ from crowdfunding a campaign to remove the child from their mother. (Forbes said at least $80,000, vox reports $139,000. I'm not supportive of the father making the trial so public, especially because he clearly gained so much money from it.

Whether or not you agree with my stance on transgender issues, I think it's important to acknowledge that this is false information, and the spread of it on any platform is really truly harmful. It's contributed greatly to polarization and hatred of those with different political beliefs.

how they want to live. Again, when we're talking about transitioning when it comes to children this young, it doesn't mean anything medical. The kid isn't doing anything permanent, but his father won't let them dress or use the name they prefer. The vast majority of psychology studies indicate this is harmful for the child.

The kid's mom, siblings, teachers, doctors, school counselors, classmates, have all said that they consistently for years have wanted to live as a female. The Dad is the only one who says otherwise. Mind you, they aren't making any medical transitions at this point. No transition surgery is legal until 18, when the kid is making the decision on their own anyway. At the age of twelve, you would potentially put them on hormone blockers, to TEMPORARILY delay the onset of male puberty (which is noted by psychologists to be very emotionally destructive to transgender youth). The ruling basically means that the kid gets to wear the clothes they want or get called the name they want at school, which I'm not sure the government should really have that much a hand in anyway, as long as school clothes are "appropriate" and whatnot. There are so many witnesses INCLUDING THE KID saying this is

to whoever posted this, this is misinformation at best, fake news at worst. while the trail did award the mother full custody, "chemical castration" won't be occuring. Hormone blockers, which is the medication in question, (which isn't started until the child starts puberty, so in another four years or so until ANY medical intervention occurs). IS COMPLETELY REVERSIBLE. Google Texas transgender child and this case will come up. no one should trust a random twitter account for political news, that's how people end up radicalized (such as anti-vaxx).

I'm curious about what the post means by accident. Are all those tally marks deaths? Environmental disasters? how would they define environmental disasters? how many units does each mark represent?

reputation in the region, not to mention any influence we may have had in supporting a democratic or at least less restrictive government in place of the Assad regime. I suggest reading news from a diverse set of sources to avoid bias in any direction in the future. Believe me, I want fewer combat deployments as much as you guys do, but giving Iran more power in the region is exactly what we all want to avoid to do so. That's why Trump has put such tough sanctions on Iran. The mistake is undermining his own sanctions by pulling out of Syria too early. We've lost our most reliable ally.

"so long as our allies remain unmolested" I'm sorry to say arguably our most important ally, the kurds, got completely fucked over when trump pulled out with little warning. Almost all our military higher ups were disgusted. Namely, James Mattis. We made a similar mistake pulling out of Afghanistan too soon, which ultimately prolonged our presence there. And if "the region blew up" it is a massive problem as things currently stand. We're heavily economically reliant on Saudi Arabia in particular, not just with oil, but with arms and military deals as well. The kurds after taking heavily losses, have now had to realign with Al-Assad's government. The issue with that is that we've made Iran more powerful in the region as a result, which was one of our primary objectives in getting involved in the proxy war in the first place. I'm not saying Obama was great in syria, he deeply mismanaged several issues, especially regarding Russia, but Trump's actions have severely damaged our

I'm writing this as a girlfriend of an infantry marine, so I wouldn't know nearly as much about rank, culture, and structure in the military as someone who's in it would, but I can at least confirm it wouldn't be abnormal for a Sgt or another superior to "order" his men to drink. I wouldn't interpret it as an actual order. I think when famousone said that when his sgt "ordered" them to drink, he wasn't forcing it on anyone. It's a cultural thing, at least in my (limited) opinion, that when a superior gives a fun order, even if it can't be an actual order, they treat it as such because it's fun. whether they get hit with an NJP would probably hinge on someone on the stricter side being present. As for the conversation on morality and gun control, I don't have anything I feel like adding for the moment.

Zebra's stripes serve another purpose! The stripes make it really difficult for a predator, namely a lion, to track an individual in a herd. It's actually a type of camouflage! Evolution is cool

In all fairness, farm waste, livestock, and logging to create space for farms, are massive contributions to climate change. Not to say that pollution and urban waste aren't awful too. Just because the problem looks different, doesn't mean there isn't one. Why do we have to play the blame game instead of collectively getting our shit together?

At the moment, a particular flashpoint is TMT or Thirty-Meter-Telescope. It's a massive part of hawaiian politics at the moment, if you're curious.
