I know a gal who had a baby right at 17 or 18. She struggled a little in the beginning but now her daughter is in high school and my friend is still fairly young with a great career.
The absolute most important thing is to not screw around with guys that don't have their shit together. A good loyal man will make it work at any age. True, you can't always tell about someone, especially at that age in this one, but a good partner is the number one most important asset to a young mother. Right up there with a supportive family.
If you are on your own, you'll still make it if you're halfway responsible. There are benefits to having children when you're young.

They tell kids that getting pregnant is like some terrible horror. Lots of girls I know turned into young single mothers and it is hard, but it's joyful too. It makes me angry that the school system tries to make kids think its the end of your life. It is exactly this attitude that creates a lot of unnecessary stress and sadness.
Its natural to have children young. Sure, family planning is great but when life happens, it can be a real blessing.
